I would like to start off my very first blog post with an apology to everyone who had to put up with my posts tonight. They have gotten progressively louder and unnesessary over the course of the night... whoo, that sugar, eh?
What's 101 tonight, February 20... Is the amount of points that the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers had to score to shut up the critics and put away the Houston Cougars.
UAB) 101-99 (Houston
The Blazers rebounded very nicely from what can only be described as a devastating loss to Memphis, considering that they choked away a victory against the top seed in the country. UAB has been in a position (just behind Houston and a fair bit behind Memphis) to be the OTHER C-USA team at the big dance come March.
I'm not 'Chips, Dan or Nate so I'm not going to lie and say that I know anything about Bracketology... everyone knows I'm bad at it because of my love affair with mid-major schools. But anyone who's been on the boards since I came roaring back to the site a couple weeks ago has probably seen me campaigning for UAB (right alongside my campaign for Butler as a #1 seed at the dance and the campaign for people to finally agree that IUPUI is better than Oral Roberts, but I digress).
The Blazers should have proven me right when they played Memphis... that didn't happen. So... because teams like UAB don't get any television coverage North of 49 I was on the Scoreboard page with my hands in prayer position begging god to help me finish my philosophy essay... and to make sure the Blazers were lifted past the Cougars and waiting scared for every refresh... especially the one with 3.0 seconds on the clock with UAB up by 2 because I really didn't want to see the Cougars had nailed a 3 in 3 seconds.
So that's what's 101 today... the magic number that labels the Blazers triumph and push back into At-Large spotlight for March.
